Cognitive health in child development: review of omega 3 published trials - CP22

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a fatty acid found in substantial quantities within the brain, higher than that of any other fatty acid, and is involved in numerous essential functions. Studies have shown that DHA levels increase rapidly during infant development and decrease during ageing. When this is considered alongside the fact that many western diets, and some infant formulas, are deficient in DHA, there may be a potential for DHA supplementation to improve cognition in children.
